EMBARQ Intros IP-based Virtual Private Network Service

EMBARQ has announced the availability of its MPLS VPN, an Internet Protocol (IP)-based virtual private network (VPN) service based on Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS).

EMBARQ MPLS VPN, according to EMBARQ, was built based on “what business owners want from their network.”

Most businesses are demanding a network that supports “evolving applications, offers flexibility and scalability, and provide a competitive advantage,” said company’s officials. “EMBARQ MPLS VPN has been around these attributes.”

Along with enhancing network management with in-network routing, officials said, the service also boosts security and service quality for multimedia streaming applications like Voice over IP (VoIP) and video.

EMBARQ MPLS VPN supports multiple protocols and access options, and it also can include network management. Moreover, it can be used to deliver “any type of network traffic,” and the packages are scalable to “fit any customer’s needs.”

The portfolio, officials explained, offers multiple customer options ranging from the simplicity of a port-only offering to the flexibility of fully managed solution bundles and unbundled port, access, router and maintenance combinations.

This latest offering from EMBARQ provides “any-to-any” connectivity and reduces costs by eliminating the need for multiple private circuits, according to Susan Sarna, vice president of business marketing and product management at EMBARQ.

“Just as football coaches count on the quarterback to run their plays, adapting as necessary, businesses can expect MPLS VPN to handle whatever the network is running,” she said.

Overland Park, Kansas-based Embarq (News - Alert) offers a complete suite of communications services. For consumers, the company offers a portfolio of services that includes local and long distance home phone service, high-speed Internet, wireless, and satellite TV from DISH Network.
